Loyal Defender

As the boy stared into the battlefield, he couldn't help wondering if he had made the right decision. That night in which he thought he had gotten the chance for success might as well have been the night of his doom. 

(Flashback)

"I missed your warmth, boy." The man said, caressing Denis' long yellow hair. The boy shifted slightly in the brothel's bed, turning his eyes to look at his patron with feigned interest. 

"Mmh... What has been keeping you away from me?" His words earned him a chuckle from the older man. He rolled his eyes.

"There's been a bit of an uprising, it seems. We're preparing to deliver an attack before they can gain any support. It's nothing big, though." He answered as he pressed a hand to the boy's chest, then lower to his stomach with curiosity and a hint of surprise. "Hmm, not bad..." He mumbled, then raised an eyebrow, amused. "Wanna join us?"

That was something Denis wasn't expecting. Boys of his status were often slaves or soldiers, but he had never shown any interest in getting himself into the military. He was better at sex than fighting, or so he believed.

"I'm untrained." He said. The man laughed. He obviously didn't care.

There was a moment of silence.

"How much will you pay?"

"More than for a fuck, that's for sure."

He was assigned to the vanguard with the untrained, the low-ranks and the disposables. Their only purpose was making a lot of noise and creating the illusion of being a numerous brigade, but none of them was expected to actually be useful. Many were, like Denis, unexperienced youths hoping to hit it big. Luckily for them, this was an easy strike; they were against a bunch of rebels without any military formation. Otherwise, they would have been sent to their death.

Time passed fast as soon as they arrived at their destination. Their enemy was aware of their arrival and was awaiting them, forming a line of snarling wolves. Denis transformed quickly; sand colored fur flared under the fire light, quickly drenched crimson as he pounded his fangs into another male's throat. It was easy. He wasn't fighting soldiers after all, just stray dogs like him. Their movements weren't hard to predict. But then he saw her.

In the distance, a big white female snarled at his leader. She had a square muzzle and strong legs, like a male, and her long curly fur looked like it hadn't been brushed in a long, long time. 

"Cheap whore..." He hissed, disgusted.

Whithout a second thought, Denis ran towards his commander, his paws setting the ground aflame with every step. In a sea of white flames, he dove under his leader's fur showing his fangs; he was covering his neck so the female wouldn't have a chance to strike a fatal attack. He was leaving himself exposed, but as long as he stayed like that, she could never defeat his leader.

Whoah! I thought I wouldn't make it in time! It took me two days. My hand hurts like hell! >.< And there are still some things I left unpolished. But uh, I don't care. >.> I really wanted to participate, seeing that the event is almost finished and yet nobody choose to figh the female NPC. So I fought for the kingdom! >:3 Everybody is Denis enemy I guess! xD 

The pose is referenced from a famous wolf photo (  s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/o…  ) in which the female looks like she's hiding under the male, but she's actually protecting his throat. I think it's very noble and very brave, and I also believe is a very smart battle formation. I really like the idea of seeing my character putting his pride aside and becoming a defender for the sake of strategy. ^^
